Seydou Keita



Photographs by Seydou Keita, ( 1921 -  2001) was a great African portraitist who lived in Bamako, Mali from 1921 to 2001. A self-taught photographer, he opened a studio in 1948 and specialized in portraiture. Seydou Keita soon photographed all of Bamako and his portraits gained a reputation for excellence throughout West Africa.

Seydou Keïta


Seydou Keïta (1921 in BamakoMali — November 21, 2001 in Paris) was a self-taught portrait photographer from Bamako. He is mostly known for his portraits of people and families he took between 1940 and the early sixties and that are widely acknowledged not only as a record of Malian society, but also as pieces of art.
