Raquel Meller

Raquel Meller, born Francisca Marqués López, was an Aragonese cuplé and tonadilla singer, and diseuse. She was an international star in the 1920s and 1930s, appearing in several films and touring Europe and the Americas.  Artists such as Charlie Chaplin and Sarah Bernhart considered Raquel Meller to have been genius. She performed extensively in the United States under contract for the Schuberts, and performances broke box office records at the time.

Fats Waller

Fats Waller (May 21, 1904 – December 15, 1943), born Thomas Wright Waller, was a jazz pianist, organist, composer, singer, and comedic entertainer. Waller was one of the most popular performers of his era, finding critical and commercial success in his homeland and in Europe. He was also a prolific songwriter and many songs he wrote or co-wrote are still popular, such as "Honeysuckle Rose", "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Squeeze Me".

John Holtum

“John Holtum, ( October 29, 1845 -  1919) was a strongman from Denmark who drew immense crowds in  cities around the world by perfecting the cannonball catch. With Holtum on one side of the stage and a cannon on the other, an assistant would fire a fifty pound ball which Holtum caught with his gloved hands and  chest. The feat required immense strength, steely nerves and lightning fast reflexes. Several skeptics questioned the legitimacy of his act but were convinced after Holtum brought them on stage for art da demonstration. Holtum appeared before Royalty in Europe and was a great success in the U.S. as well."

Uday Shankar


Uday Shankar (8 December 1900 – 26 September 1977) (Bengali: উদয় শংকর), the pioneer of modern dance in India, and a world renowned Indian dancer and choreographer, was most known for adapting Western theatrical techniques to traditional Indian classical dance, imbued with elements of Indian classical, folk, and tribal dance, thus laying the roots of modern Indian dance, which he later popularized in India, Europe, and the United States in 1920s and 1930s and effectively placed Indian dance on the world map.

Camille Clifford

The Gibson Girl, Camille Antoinette Clifford  (29 June 1885 – 28 June 1971) was a Belgian-born stage actress and known as the "most beautiful woman in the world", Lina Cavalieri was also a talented opera singer with an hour glass figure. She sported valuable trophies from half the crowned heads of Europe including Russian Prince Alexander Bariatinsky (to whom she claimed to have married) and Benito Mussolini.
